About this typing speed test

Typing speed is measured in words per minute (WPM), where one word is counted as five characters. Accuracy is the share of typed characters that match the text. This test counts only correct characters toward your WPM, so rushing and making mistakes lowers your score. Choose a 1, 2 or 5 minute test, type the passage, and the timer starts when you press your first key. Your best score is saved in your browser only.

How to use it

1. Choose the test length.
2. Click the text box and start typing the passage shown.
3. When time ends, read your WPM and accuracy, then try to beat your best.

Tips and good to know

Accuracy first, speed second. Keep your fingers on the home row, look at the text instead of the keys and sit in a relaxed posture. Short daily practice of 10 to 15 minutes works better than one long session. Aim to push accuracy above 95 percent, then work on speed.
