A fixed deposit (FD) earns compound interest on a lump sum, while a recurring deposit (RD) builds up through monthly installments. This calculator handles both, and you can use them together. Banks often compound FD interest quarterly, so that is the default, but you can switch to monthly, half-yearly or yearly. Real bank maturity amounts can differ slightly depending on their rounding, tax deducted at source and the exact deposit dates.
More frequent compounding gives slightly more interest, but the rate matters more than the frequency. For an RD, enter the monthly deposit and leave the lump sum at zero. Compare the effective annual yield between banks instead of just the headline rate.
No. Interest may be taxable, so check the rules that apply to you.
Banks use their own rounding and day-count rules.
